British pop star and muse to the Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull, passes away at age 78

British pop star Marianne Faithfull, known for inspiring and co-writing some of the Rolling Stones’ greatest hits, has passed away at the age of 78 in London. Faithfull’s spokesperson announced her peaceful passing on Thursday, surrounded by her family. Born in Hampstead in 1946, Faithfull rose to fame at just 17 after recording the hit single “As Tears Go By” by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Her relationship with Jagger in the ’60s made her one of the most notorious couples during “Swinging London.” Despite her success, Faithfull battled drug addiction and was homeless in her mid-20s before making a comeback with the album “Broken English” in 1979. She eventually overcame her addiction and continued to make music and act. Jagger expressed his sadness at her passing, remembering Faithfull as a wonderful friend and talented artist. Faithfull’s extraordinary life, as she described it, was filled with highs and lows, but she always appreciated her experiences. The iconic singer will be remembered for her contributions to music and her unique presence in the rock and roll scene.
