Northern Colorado is set to see light snow this weekend with the potential for heavy snowfall next week as February begins. Forecast models are indicating a large storm system between Wednesday and Friday, followed by more storminess from February 11 to Valentine’s Day. Additionally, the southwestern and southeastern mountains in Colorado recently received much-needed snow.
Purgatory Mountain Resort saw a significant increase in snowfall overnight, and the base at the resort improved as well. Looking ahead, the first two weeks of February will be marked by multiple storms across Colorado, starting with clear skies and warmer temperatures on Friday. Snow is expected to develop over the northern mountains on Saturday, leading to storm skiing and riding opportunities.
Snow accumulation totals in the northern mountains are expected to range from 1-7 inches by Sunday afternoon. Monday and Tuesday will see partly sunny skies, but another round of snow is forecasted to arrive on Wednesday, lasting through Friday morning. Snowfall totals are predicted to be heavy in the northwestern and central mountains and moderate in the northern and southern mountains.
Looking at the long-term forecast, the trend is for mostly mild and sunny weather from February 8 to February 11, with a potentially larger snow system hitting Colorado’s southern half on Tuesday, February 11. As more information becomes available, details on snow totals and duration will become clearer. Today’s 24-hour snow totals from Colorado resorts are currently at zero inches.
