Denver authorities probe alleged explosion in city center district

Denver police are investigating a reported explosion that occurred late Thursday night in a downtown neighborhood. The incident took place near 6th Avenue and Sherman Street around 10 p.m. Authorities determined that the cause of the explosion was a vehicle owner cooking inside the vehicle with a propane tank.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers called in the bomb squad robot and a drone to inspect a suspicious-looking vehicle parked in the drive-thru at a Wendy’s restaurant. A large perimeter was set up for public safety. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection with the explosion.

Denver Police Department spokesman Doug Schepman told CBS News Colorado about the incident. The police investigation into the explosion is ongoing as they work to determine the full extent of the damage and ensure the safety of the public in the area.

The explosion has raised concerns about safety practices involving the use of propane tanks in vehicles. Authorities are reminding the public to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines when using flammable materials to prevent similar incidents in the future. The downtown neighborhood is currently safe, and police are continuing to monitor the situation.
