Wolf packs from Canada migrate to Colorado, purpose unknown | News

A plane from British Columbia carrying wolves believed to be part of Colorado’s reintroduction program landed at the Eagle County Airport on Sunday afternoon. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials did not confirm the arrival of the wolves. The wolves were intended to be released in Pitkin, Eagle, and Garfield counties, with only Pitkin voting in favor of the reintroduction measure in 2020. Despite local opposition, the wolves were not expected to be released in Garfield County. The wolves were believed to be examined and treated for diseases and infections before their release. Lawmakers expressed concerns about the lack of transparency from CPW regarding wolf releases and potential impacts on livestock. CPW assured legislators and stakeholders that they would address issues raised by the community and that operations would be closely monitored. Due to safety concerns, CPW did not immediately release the details of the wolf release but planned to hold a press conference once the operation was complete. The lawmakers emphasized the importance of supporting, involving, and respecting communities affected by wolf reintroduction efforts in Colorado. They indicated that they would take action if CPW failed to honor their commitments or if problems arose during the release process.
