Denver’s National Western Stock Show Parade Delayed Due to Weather Conditions
Denver, CO – Steers and wranglers participating in the annual National Western Stock Show parade will have to wait an additional hour this Thursday, as officials announced a delay to 1 p.m. at Union Station. The decision to push back the start time was made in light of icy conditions that have recently plagued Denver and the forecast for snow on Thursday morning.
The parade traditionally marches from Union Station down 17th Street, concluding at Glenarm Place near the historic Brown Palace Hotel. According to Stock Show officials, the decision to delay was made in collaboration with the National Weather Service, city officials, and transportation advisors. "Adjusting the start time will allow for improved conditions during the event," officials stated in a news release, emphasizing the importance of safety for the animals, riders, and spectators alike.
Inclement weather has previously impacted the parade, with the last cancellation occurring in 2021 due to snow and freezing temperatures. Stock Show officials are committed to ensuring a safe environment for all participants along the parade route, which features horse-drawn wagons, western riding groups, and the signature Longhorn cattle drive.
This year’s beloved tradition will honor Kathy Sabine, an enthusiastic equestrian and chief meteorologist for 9NEWS, as the Grand Marshal. Her involvement highlights the event’s connection to Denver’s Western heritage, drawing crowds eager to celebrate this cultural staple.
