The search for an 8-year-old girl in Oklahoma entered its third day after her family’s vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Texas on Christmas Eve. Four family members were rescued, but one body, identified as her father, was recovered. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott approved state search-and-rescue teams to assist in the search efforts. Search efforts expanded to different creeks and counties with no success so far. Severe weather warnings were issued for parts of Texas as thunderstorms and tornadoes threatened the area. The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for the Dallas-Fort Worth metro and a tornado watch for the Houston metro. Abbott activated state emergency resources due to the severe weather threat across the eastern half of Texas. The forecast predicted risks of large hail, damaging winds, possible tornadoes, and heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding. The threat of minor river flooding was expected to subside early next week. The Sherman Police Department expressed gratitude for community support and assistance but stated that they did not require additional resources for the search. The search operation was ongoing, but inclement weather may temporarily halt efforts until conditions improve.
