The CBI has found 652 cases affected by her recent work and is now re-examining all of her cases dating back to 1994. The investigation has led to the setting aside of $7.5m for new tests, re-trials, and potentially reimbursing wrongfully convicted inmates. While Ms. Woods has not been charged and maintains her innocence, officials have found that she deviated from standard testing protocols, casting doubt on the reliability of her work.

The investigation has uncovered another scientist, Chiara Wuensch, who was fired from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office for manipulating data. The CBI is conducting a separate investigation into her activities.
