Sean Payton’s fourth-quarter play calls irk Panthers players

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton made some bold play calls in a game against the Carolina Panthers, even with his team having a comfortable lead. Payton attempted a fake field goal and a double pass in the fourth quarter, both of which did not result in points for the Broncos. The Panthers scored a late touchdown to make it a 28-14 final, and cornerback Jaycee Horn was seen jawing at Payton after the game, accusing him of trying to run up the score.

Payton, who had previously coached Horn’s father in New Orleans, responded by saying he enjoyed coaching the elder Horn and that Jaycee was frustrated and likely yelling at another player. The Panthers did not appreciate Payton’s fourth quarter play calls, with special teams captain Sam Franklin stating that they felt the Broncos were trying to embarrass them by continuing to score despite already having a significant lead.

In addition to the on-field confrontation, Payton also criticized the Panthers offense, led by quarterback Bryce Young, calling it “not a good offense.” He expressed confidence that the Broncos would face stronger opponents in the future.

Despite the controversy surrounding the game, the Broncos emerged victorious over the Panthers. The interactions between Payton and Horn, as well as the aggressive play calling in the fourth quarter, added an extra layer of drama to the matchup.
