South Suburban Parks and Recreation hosted its annual Pumpkin Plunge event at Buck Recreation Center in Littleton, offering children aged 3 to 12 a unique Halloween experience. The event involved diving into a pool filled with floating pumpkins, followed by pumpkin decorating.
A total of 94 children participated in the Pumpkin Plunge, eagerly diving for pumpkins and enjoying the opportunity to swim in the pool. The concept for the event came from the district aquatics manager, Anne Harston, who wanted to combine aquatic fun with Halloween festivities.
Harston, a former preschool teacher, emphasized the importance of introducing children to water activities at a young age. The Pumpkin Plunge has become a popular event, with families from all over the Denver metro area attending each year.
The community aspect of the event was highlighted by parents and grandparents who shared stories of their family’s connections to the Buck Recreation Center and the Littleton community. The goal of the event was to provide a fun and engaging experience for children while fostering a sense of community among attendees.
Overall, the Pumpkin Plunge was a success, with children enjoying the opportunity to swim, dive for pumpkins, and interact with new friends. Harston’s dedication to creating enjoyable and memorable events for families was evident, and the community building aspect of the event was emphasized as an important aspect of the center’s programming.
