Longtime cyclist Gary Robinson has partnered with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado to change the relationship between motorists and cyclists on the road. Robinson, who survived a near-fatal crash, decided to use his experience to educate the community on road safety and unity. His passion for cycling led him to create a blog, Colorado Avid Cyclist, to build a community around the sport.
Robinson was involved in a crash while completing a 50-mile ride, where he was struck from behind by a vehicle. Despite not breaking any bones, he suffered significant injuries and lost a pint of blood. The driver of the vehicle acted inhumanely after the crash, prompting Robinson to realize the divide between motorists and cyclists. This led to a partnership with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to address road safety and bring unity to the roads.
Together, Robinson and the Sheriff’s Office are working to educate the community and foster a better relationship between motorists and cyclists. By joining forces, they hope to make a difference in promoting road safety and encouraging all road users to share the road responsibly. Robinson’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of mutual respect and understanding between different road users for a safer and more harmonious environment.
