Winter Park Teams Rescue Gondola Riders Following Saturday Malfunction

Press Release: Gondola Malfunction Leads to Safe Evacuation at Winter Park Resort

WINTER PARK, Colo. — On Saturday, shortly after noon, a gondola at Winter Park Resort experienced a malfunction, prompting an immediate evacuation of passengers around 1 p.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. A spokesperson confirmed to Denver7 that an investigation into the cause of the malfunction is currently underway.

By approximately 4 p.m., resort staff were assisting with the evacuation of the last few gondola riders. "The evacuation of guests was completed without further incident," the spokesperson stated, assuring that the Winter Park team, alongside the Colorado Tramway Safety Board and gondola manufacturer Leitner-Poma, is diligently working to understand what caused the malfunction.

To expedite repairs, a replacement part is being sourced from Grand Junction, although no timeline has been provided for when the gondola will be back in operation. The spokesperson confirmed that the gondola, which transports visitors to an elevation of about 10,700 feet, will remain closed on Sunday. However, guests can still enjoy the rest of the mountain and access other open trails via alternative lifts.

Winter Park Resort has emphasized its commitment to the safety and well-being of its guests throughout this process. They are actively ensuring that all essential safety protocols are followed as they investigate the malfunction and work toward restoring full service.

For ongoing updates, guests are encouraged to monitor the resort’s official communications and social media channels.
