Zeus, a Great Dane who passed away in 2014, holds the record for the tallest dog ever at 3 feet, 6 inches. Currently, the title for the tallest living dog is held by Reggie, a 7-year-old Great Dane from Idaho, who stands at 3 feet 3 inches tall. Meanwhile, Pearl, a 4-year-old Chihuahua from Florida, is recognized as the smallest living dog at just 3.59 inches. This creates a remarkable three-foot height difference between Reggie and Pearl, akin to the length of a baseball bat.
In early April, Pearl traveled to Idaho to meet Reggie, and their encounter was organized by Guinness World Records. Their playdate was photographed, showing Reggie lowering himself to Pearl’s level while she playfully dashed over his legs. Both dogs’ owners expressed surprise at their friendly interaction. Reggie’s owner, Sam Johnson, noted that despite Reggie’s towering size, he seemed puzzled but gentle around Pearl, who exhibited no fear and was eager to engage with him. Pearl’s owner, Vanesa Semler, emphasized that Pearl is friendly with larger dogs and appears unaware of her diminutive size.
It’s important to mention that while Reggie is the tallest living dog, Zeus remains the tallest dog recorded in history. Meanwhile, Pearl follows the lineage of the previous record-holder, Millie, who stood at 3.8 inches tall before passing away in 2020. Guinness World Records has been cataloging record-breakers since 1954 and verifies records through a strict application process.
