Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis is making waves in children’s literature with her debut book, "The Girl Who Was Too Big for the Page," inspired by her own experiences as a tall child. In a recent interview with "CBS Mornings," Davis opened up about her journey growing up, where fitting in felt like a constant struggle due to her height. "All I wanted to do was fit in and not stand out," she reflected on her childhood, sharing that she was often teased and compared to basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
In her book, Davis introduces readers to Sheila, a character grappling with feelings of inadequacy due to her height and a voice she perceives as too big for the page. Through Sheila’s story, Davis conveys an important message about self-acceptance and embracing one’s uniqueness. "It wasn’t until I was an adult and I stopped growing that I realized, you know, that it’s okay to take up this much space," she noted, highlighting her personal growth.
Not only did Davis write the book, but she also illustrated it, tapping into her passion for drawing that she has held since childhood. She emphasized her clear vision of how she wanted the characters to look, stating, "I’ve always been very interested in drawing, always have drawn."
