Donald Trump Backs Republican Gabe Evans in Colorado’s Competitive 8th Congressional District

Trump Endorses Congressman Gabe Evans in Competitive Colorado District

In a significant political move, former President Donald Trump endorsed U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans, a first-term Republican representing Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, known for its competitiveness. Trump praised Evans on the Truth Social platform, calling him an “America First Patriot” and noting his service as a decorated Army helicopter pilot and former police officer. “Gabe has served our Nation with Great Honor and Distinction,” Trump stated, highlighting Evans’ commitment to securing the border, supporting American energy, defending the Second Amendment, and advocating for military and veteran issues.

This endorsement marks Trump’s continued support for Evans, having previously endorsed him before last year’s primary; Evans ousted Democratic incumbent Yadira Caraveo in a closely contested race. Trump reinforced his belief in Evans’ capabilities as a congressional fighter, proclaiming he has “my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”

Trump’s endorsement comes just ahead of his 100th day in office, a time often regarded as the end of a new administration’s “honeymoon” period. Alongside Evans, Trump also endorsed four other incumbent Republicans in targeted House districts, signaling a strategic effort to bolster the GOP’s standing in Congress amid the approaching midterm elections.

As the 8th District is classified as a tossup by national political analysts, the Democratic party is gearing up for a challenge, with Caraveo and state Rep. Manny Rutinel already announcing candidacies. Reacting to the endorsement, Evans expressed gratitude and emphasized his dedication to community safety and fighting crime.

The Colorado Democratic Party responded critically, suggesting that Evans’ alignment with Trump’s agenda was less about constituents and more about personal ambition. Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee celebrated the endorsement, citing it as a boost to Evans’ campaign momentum for 2026.
