Dre Greenlaw Set to Miss Time in Offseason Program Due to Quadriceps Strain
The Denver Broncos will be navigating a setback as linebacker Dre Greenlaw, one of their key free agent acquisitions, is set to miss several weeks following a quadriceps strain. Greenlaw, who signed a lucrative three-year contract in March, suffered the injury during training but is not expected to need surgery. Sources indicate he should be ready for training camp, which begins in late July.
At 27, Greenlaw’s injury history raises concerns; he has faced multiple issues over recent seasons. After a calf injury sidelined him for the final games of the 49ers’ last season, he only managed to play 34 snaps in 2024 due to a torn Achilles sustained during the Super Bowl. Throughout his career, he has missed 34 of 98 regular-season games due to injuries, including previous quad and hamstring problems.
Despite these concerns, the 49ers made considerable efforts to retain Greenlaw, sending head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch to his home in Texas to persuade him to stay. The Broncos, however, are counting on him to solidify their defense, particularly in the middle linebacker position.
Currently, the Broncos are in a strength-and-conditioning phase of their offseason, transitioning to organized team activities in late May, followed by a mandatory minicamp on June 10-12. Greenlaw’s timeline allows him roughly three months to recover before the official preseason begins.
Greenlaw’s contract includes up to $31.5 million, with $11.5 million guaranteed for 2025, emphasizing the Broncos’ commitment to improving their defensive lineup for the upcoming season. With training camp on the horizon, the team remains optimistic about Greenlaw’s return.
