Aimee Lou Wood speaks out against SNL sketch she deems “mean and unfunny”

British actress Aimee Lou Wood has spoken out against a sketch on the popular US comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL) that mocked her appearance. The sketch featured SNL cast member Sarah Sherman impersonating Wood, wearing exaggerated prosthetic teeth, which Wood described as “mean and unfunny.” Despite her criticism, Wood acknowledged that SNL had apologized for the sketch.

Wood, best known for her role in the television series The White Lotus, plays Chelsea in the show, which follows the drama and secrets unfolding at a luxury resort in Thailand. The SNL sketch titled White Potus replaced the series’ characters with depictions of Donald Trump and his inner circle.

While Wood clarified that she is not thin-skinned and understands that SNL is about caricature, she expressed disappointment in the sketch’s focus on her teeth rather than making a clever, nuanced joke. She highlighted the importance of punching up in comedy rather than punching down.

The actress also addressed comments she made in a recent GQ Hype interview about feeling “ugly,” clarifying that her insecurities stemmed from her own thoughts rather than anything said by HBO. Wood explained how the process of being cast in The White Lotus had triggered her insecurity but expressed gratitude for the support she received after speaking out against the SNL sketch on Instagram.
