Teenager Dhaevontae Rogers-Broadus has recently pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in connection with two separate murders that occurred in 2023. Rogers-Broadus turned himself in to the Aurora Police in October 2023 after a shooting at Southlands Mall that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old. Subsequently, in April 2024, he was charged in connection with a carjacking that led to the death of a 23-year-old man who had recently immigrated to the United States from Iraq.
Interestingly, while Rogers-Broadus was charged for the shopping center shooting first, the carjacking incident actually occurred prior, just 11 days before. The carjacking resulted in the death of Ahmed Zainuldeen, who was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Ivy Crossing Apartment Complex in Aurora.
According to the arrest affidavit from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Zainuldeen was shot by one of three teenagers from the back seat of his own car after he had walked to the parking lot upon hearing his car alarm. The teenagers then drove away in Zainuldeen’s vehicle, which was later found abandoned in a different location.
