Elton John, Celine Dion, Amy Winehouse, and “Hamilton” Inducted into 2025 National Recording Registry

The Library of Congress recently announced the addition of 25 audio recordings to its National Recording Registry, ensuring their preservation for future generations. This year’s selection includes iconic albums by Elton John, Amy Winehouse, and Celine Dion, as well as historic recordings such as the Hawaiian Quintette’s “Aloha ‘Oe” from 1913 and the boot-up chime from Windows 95 by Brian Eno.

Representing a wide range of genres, from jazz to Broadway to rap, the new additions bring the total number of titles on the Registry to 675. Chair of the National Recording Preservation Board, Robbin Ahrold, described the selections as “an honor roll of superb American popular music” that spans more than a century.

Other notable inclusions this year are the debut albums from rock band Chicago and singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, as well as the cast album of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s groundbreaking musical “Hamilton.” The diverse array of recordings showcases America’s rich artistic, cultural, and historic heritage.

With more than 2,600 recordings nominated by the public this year, the Library of Congress continues its mission to recognize and preserve significant audio works that have had a lasting impact on American culture. The addition of these new recordings ensures that their legacy will endure for generations to come.
