Child Abuse Prevention Month is being highlighted by Kids-TALK through their annual pinwheel campaign and ongoing support for families. However, a local leader of an anti-child abuse advocacy group, Bikers Against Child Abuse, was arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography. John C. Todaro, the vice president of the Buffalo chapter, was charged with felonies and released on bail. The chapter expressed deep concern over the charges and took immediate action to remove Todaro from the organization.
Bikers Against Child Abuse is a nonprofit that aims to create a safer environment for abused children. They provide support to children who are fearful of their environment by assigning them two primary contacts who can offer assistance and intervention if needed. Before becoming primary contacts, bikers go through an extensive background check and receive special instructions from a Licensed Mental Health Professional. They may attend court hearings, provide a physical presence in the child’s neighborhood, and intervene if further violence occurs.
The organization’s mission is to ensure that abused children feel supported and protected, and they work closely with authorities to address cases of abuse. Despite the actions of a former leader, Bikers Against Child Abuse remains dedicated to their cause and continues to provide much-needed support to vulnerable children in their community.
