Amsterdam, Netherlands – One suspect has been arrested after a stabbing attack near Dam Square in the capital of the Netherlands left at least four people wounded. The motive for the attack is still unclear and part of the ongoing investigation, according to police. The condition of the victims is unknown at this time.
The incident occurred on a nearby street at around 3:30 pm, with a trauma helicopter landing at Dam Square to assist the injured. Police vans and ambulances were also present at the scene. The square was temporarily closed off to the public but reopened after about two hours.
Images from the local news agency ANP showed a person being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher. Mayor Femke Halsema reportedly left a meeting in the town hall when news of the attack broke.
Initially, police reported that five people were wounded, but later clarified that the suspect was among the injured. The suspect was subdued with the help of a citizen and taken to a hospital for treatment of an injured leg, according to police.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack and are working to determine the motive behind the violence. The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
