Fort Collins High School teacher accused of child sex crimes, police report

A 48-year-old Fort Collins High School music teacher, David Miles, has been arrested on charges of sex assault and sexual exploitation of a child. Miles, who had been teaching at the school for 16 years, was apprehended following an investigation that began in February after a report of a sex assault that took place in 2022. The investigation revealed that Miles had engaged in explicit communication and sexual activity with a victim who was a teenager at the time but is now an adult.

Police obtained a search warrant for Miles’ cell phone and found evidence of the sexual assault, leading to his arrest on multiple charges related to child sex crimes. The school district immediately placed Miles on administrative leave upon learning of the allegations, emphasizing the safety and well-being of students as a top priority.

Authorities are calling for any individuals with information about this case or similar incidents involving Miles to come forward. The Fort Collins Police Services Crimes Against Persons Unit is leading the investigation, with Detective Matt Dean available for contact. The school district has offered counseling services for any students in need of support, urging concerned parents to reach out to the school office for assistance.

Lieutenant Sara Lynd of the Fort Collins Police Services praised the detectives for their work on the case, emphasizing the importance of protecting youth from sexual exploitation and assault. The community and police are committed to ensuring the safety of all individuals, especially minors, in the wake of this disturbing incident.
