Trump Demands Removal of ‘Misleading’ Portrait Depicting Himself as ‘Truly the Worst’

President Donald Trump has called for a portrait of himself to be removed from a gallery in the Colorado State Capitol almost six years after the artist, Sarah Boardman, unveiled it. Trump posted on Truth Social criticizing the portrait as purposefully distorted and the worst he has ever seen. He also called out Colorado Gov. Jared Polis for allowing it to hang in the Capitol.

The portrait has faced criticism from others as well, with Trump claiming that many people from Colorado have called and written to complain about it. Back in 2018, a political activist placed a portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the spot where Trump’s portrait was supposed to hang, prompting a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the official portrait.

Boardman, who painted portraits of both Obama and Trump, expressed gratitude for the unveiling of Trump’s portrait in 2019 and emphasized that her personal political views did not impact her work. Polis’s spokesperson expressed surprise at Trump’s post and stated that they are always looking for opportunities to improve the visitor experience at the Capitol.

Trump’s sudden outcry against the portrait comes years after its unveiling, raising questions about his motivations for speaking out now. Neither Boardman nor Polis have responded to requests for comment regarding Trump’s recent remarks.
