House Democrats launched billboards accusing vulnerable Republicans of voting to cut Medicaid and give tax breaks to Elon Musk. The billboards were taken down after a cease-and-desist letter was sent by the House Republicans’ campaign arm. The letter argued that Medicaid has not been cut and that the claims made on the billboards were false.
The billboards were displayed in districts belonging to Reps. Gabe Evans, Don Bacon, Ryan Mackenzie, Monica De La Cruz, Jen Kiggans, and Rob Wittman. The NRCC claimed that no Member of Congress had voted for cuts to Medicaid and accused the Democrats of spreading misinformation.
After receiving the cease-and-desist letter, Lamar Advertising Company confirmed that the billboards were no longer running. However, House Majority Forward stated that two of the billboards were still up and running under a different vendor.
Democrats have argued that Republicans are planning to cut Medicaid, pointing to proposed budget cuts that run through the healthcare beneficiary program. Republicans have dismissed these claims as hysteria, stating that the budget resolution does not specifically mention Medicaid, Social Security, or Medicare.
House Majority Forward has stood by the claims made on the billboards, citing research and verification by the Congressional Budget Office and Republican Rep. Don Bacon. The battle over the billboards continues, with Democrats accusing the NRCC of trying to silence free speech and facts on the issue of Medicaid cuts.
