Numerous Semi Trucks Involved in Slideouts in Colorado, Section of I-25 Shut Down; I-70 Closed Overnight on Plains

Interstate 25 in Colorado’s Douglas County was shut down in both directions late on Tuesday night due to a series of semi truck slideouts in dangerous driving conditions. Several semis were jackknifed, causing the closure north of Colorado Springs and south of Larkspur. As many as 20 large vehicles were stuck and sliding on the road as rain and snow showers in the Palmer Divide area caused windshields to ice up, leading to low visibility. The closure extended from Castle Rock to Monument, with no indication of when the road would reopen.

The Colorado Department of Transportation camera captured a backup on I-25 in the Larkspur area, displaying the chaotic traffic conditions caused by the semi slideouts. Due to the hazardous road conditions, Douglas County was on accident alert. In addition to the closure of I-25, a blizzard warning and dangerous driving conditions led to a full overnight closure of Interstate 70 on Colorado’s Eastern Plains.

The closure of major highways in Colorado due to winter weather is a common occurrence, especially in the mountainous regions. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on road conditions and closures during winter storms to ensure their safety while traveling through the state.
