Denver’s Colfax Avenue was alive with energy during a recent holiday weekend, as local businesses navigated challenges due to ongoing construction on the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Despite the roadwork, businesses like Champagne Tiger hosted sold-out events, showcasing the community’s support. As construction fences lined the avenue, the Colfax Business Improvement District stepped in to help, installing signs and decals to guide visitors to their favorite spots.
The Colfax BID also organized events like a St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl to boost foot traffic and support struggling businesses. Additionally, they are fundraising by selling “Colfax Under Construction” shirts, with proceeds going towards helping businesses cover expenses during this challenging time. As warmer weather approaches, business owners are hopeful that increased foot traffic and community support will help them weather the construction storm and emerge even stronger.
Chris Donato, the owner of Champagne Tiger, expressed optimism for the future, despite the current challenges. He emphasized the importance of community support in helping businesses like his thrive. The Colfax BID’s efforts to plan events and assist struggling businesses are making a difference, showcasing the resilience and camaraderie of the Colfax Avenue community. With the hope that Colfax Avenue will emerge even better after the construction is complete, business owners and residents are rallying together to ensure the avenue remains a vibrant and thriving destination for all.
