Windy and dry weather conditions have led to numerous wildfires erupting throughout Texas and Oklahoma. Smoke and dust have filled the skies in Oklahoma as a result of the fires. In Texas, high winds exceeding 30 miles per hour have fueled the fires, with 10 wildfires remaining uncontained in various parts of the state. The Crabapple Fire near Fredericksburg in Gillespie County has burned 8,640 acres and is 0% contained, while the Windmill Fire in Roberts County has spread over 23,000 acres and is 65% contained. A large airtanker was deployed to drop retardant in an effort to contain the Windmill Fire. Additional fires burning in Texas include the Rest Area Fire in Gray County, the Cottonwood Creek Fire in San Saba County, and others in Duval, Real, Bandera, Upshur, and Hidalgo counties. A total of 130 Texas counties have issued burn bans, prohibiting outdoor burning due to the warm and dry conditions. Officials continue to work towards containing the fires as more resources are deployed to combat the ongoing wildfires.
