Closure of Colorado Dog Rescue Due to Suspension of State License, Nearly 90 Dogs Relocated

Colorado dog rescue, Moms and Mutts Colorado (MAMCO), has been forced to shut down and surrender all its animals after the state suspended its license. The organization faced allegations of failing to isolate sick and possibly rabid puppies, which they denied. The rescue, known for helping save nearly 14,000 animals over eight years, believes they won’t recover from these claims.

The state’s Pet Animal Care and Facilities Act program accused MAMCO of not preventing cross-contamination between infected puppies, leading to the euthanization of four puppies. Despite denying the allegations and stating that proper precautions were taken, the rescue was ordered to surrender all dogs.

Although MAMCO transferred nearly 90 dogs to other shelters and rescues, the rescue’s doors remain closed. The organization’s CFO, Rob Jones, expressed devastation over the situation and stated that the false information used to suspend their license has caused irreparable damage. A court date has been set for a hearing, but the future of the rescue remains uncertain.

The state agency cited an imminent threat to the health and safety of Colorado dogs and their owners as the reason for the suspension. However, MAMCO claims to have followed protocols and rectified any mistakes promptly. Despite their efforts to comply with regulations, the rescue is now facing a challenging legal battle to clear their name and potentially reopen in the future.
