House Democrat proposes resolution to censure Lauren Boebert for ‘pimp cane’ comments

House Democrat Chrissy Houlahan is calling for Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert to be censured for allegedly making racist and derogatory comments about Texas Democrat Al Green during President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress. Houlahan introduced a resolution condemning Boebert for her remarks, which were deemed a breach of proper conduct in the House of Representatives. Boebert had criticized Green’s behavior during Trump’s address, calling it abhorrent.

Houlahan’s resolution was inspired by a conversation she had with House Speaker Mike Johnson following the censure of Green for a similar breach of conduct. Boebert responded to the resolution with mockery, asking who Houlahan was and if she could wear a purple mink coat in the well.

Boebert’s interruptions during Biden’s 2022 State of the Union address, along with her previous comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar, have raised concerns among Democrats. Boebert and fellow Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene disrupted Biden’s speech by chanting “Build the Wall!” and heckling the President during a sensitive moment.

Boebert has faced backlash for her controversial statements in the past, but she later apologized for describing Rep. Omar as a terrorist. The ongoing tension between Boebert and her Democratic colleagues highlights the deep divisions within Congress and the challenges of maintaining decorum in a politically polarized environment.
