The 4th Infantry Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team is deploying 2,400 soldiers to the border with Mexico to assist in maintaining security efforts. The troops will provide a range of support, including detection and monitoring, administrative and transportation support, as well as vehicle maintenance and engineering support. This marks the first deployment of Strykers to the southern border since 2012. The total number of active troops deployed to the border now stands at approximately 10,000.
President Trump’s campaign promise to secure the southern border has led to a more aggressive stance on illegal immigration compared to the Biden administration. In Colorado, tensions have risen as Denver has seen an influx of over 43,000 immigrants, prompting criticism from Republicans like Rep. Lauren Boebert. Trump’s “Operation: Aurora” targeted members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua, leading to deportations of close to 38,000 people in his first month in office.
The latest deployment of troops from Fort Carson aims to enhance detection and monitoring capabilities at the border while providing logistics, maintenance, and administrative support. The troops will not be involved in deportation operations but are intended to stop the flow of illegal migration and drugs. General Gregory Guillot of the United States Northern Command emphasizes that these deployments will bring additional agility and capability to border security efforts.
