The Community College of Denver (CCD) has launched a new tuition-free high school diploma program for adults, aimed at helping those who did not complete high school unlock new academic and career opportunities. The program costs a one-time fee of $50 and can be completed in as little as five weeks, with the flexibility to extend studies up to one year. Designed to give adults the tools they need to improve their job prospects and contribute to the state’s workforce, the program offers self-paced learning and accommodates working adults with classes on weekday evenings and weekends, as well as remote attendance options.
The competency-based structure allows students to progress at their own pace, earning credit for prior coursework or testing out of subjects they have completed in the past. With a projected workforce gap in Colorado by 2031, the program aims to help fill this gap by providing adults with the educational credentials needed to pursue high-paying jobs, vocational certifications, or college degrees. The long-term vision is to strengthen the state’s workforce by providing adult learners with the credentials they need to succeed in high-growth industries.
Since its launch, interest in the program has soared, with 400 applications received for the next round of classes. CCD is thrilled with the community’s response and hopes to set a model for other institutions in Colorado to follow, providing more opportunities for adults across the state to complete their high school education and build a better future.
