NFLPA Team Report Cards: Chargers, Falcons, and Commanders Show Major Improvement Amidst League-wide Progress

The NFL Players Association has released its annual report on the working conditions of NFL teams, with the Los Angeles Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, and Washington Commanders showing the most improvement in 2024 after receiving poor grades in 2023. The report, unveiled by NFLPA chief strategy officer JC Tretter, was based on surveys conducted with 1,695 players from Aug. 26 to Nov. 20, 2024.

Overall, NFL teams received an average improvement of 3.5 points, with a 41 percent increase in As received from players and a 51 percent reduction in grades of D-plus or lower. The Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings maintained their top positions from the previous year, with the Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, and Chargers rounding out the top five.

The Commanders, under owner Josh Harris, made significant improvements in facilities and accommodations after receiving a failing grade in 2023. Similarly, the Falcons upgraded their team facility and staff, leading to a major jump in their rankings. The Dolphins also received high marks for their treatment of families and player accommodations, while the Cardinals were among the lowest-ranking teams.

This year, the NFLPA expanded the categories for grading owners based on their willingness to invest in facilities, contributions to team culture, and commitment to building a competitive team. Miami’s Stephen Ross, Minnesota’s Zygi Wilf, and Atlanta’s Arthur Blank were among the top-rated owners, while New England’s Robert Kraft, Carolina’s David Tepper, and the New York Jets’ Woody Johnson were among the lowest-rated owners.

Overall, the report highlighted the progress made by teams in prioritizing the well-being and working conditions of their players, with the goal of holding NFL owners accountable for creating a positive environment for athletes.
