Government forms committee to oversee 1A funds in Arapahoe County

Arapahoe County Officials Establish New Committee to Oversee De-Bruce Funds

Arapahoe County officials have announced the creation of a new committee to oversee the influx of funds from a recent voter-approved move to “de-Bruce.” This move allows the county to eliminate Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights revenue limit and use all collected taxes for spending priorities.

The 1A Resident Advisory Committee will be made up of 10 volunteer members who will serve as a recommending body for the county commissioners and staff. The committee will ensure transparency and accountability in the allocation of the additional funds, focusing on investing in essential services and infrastructure as well as public safety.

Residents can apply to serve on the committee through the county website, with a core responsibility being to ensure funds are used in alignment with the County’s Strategic Plan and intended purposes. The impact of the ballot measure won’t be seen until 2026, as the 2025 budget is already balanced, requiring cuts of $29.5 million.

County Commissioner Carrie Warren-Gully emphasized the importance of using the funds judiciously to address the backlog of work that has accumulated over the years due to budget challenges. The county will need to carefully consider how to best utilize the new funding in a thoughtful and strategic manner to benefit the community.

The establishment of the 1A Resident Advisory Committee marks a significant step towards ensuring responsible and effective use of the additional revenue, ultimately benefiting the residents of Arapahoe County.
