The last week of February in Colorado will see some snow in the high country, with accumulations mostly limited to the northern mountains. The rest of the week will be dry and warm. However, around March 2, another streak of snow is expected to hit the mountains, marking the beginning of the snowiest month.
Last weekend offered sunny and warm conditions in the state’s ski areas with highs recorded at various mountain locations. The current forecast predicts light snow in the northern mountains on Monday, with accumulations expected to be between 3-5 inches in the northern mountains, 1-2 inches in the central mountains, and a dusting in the southern mountains by Wednesday morning.
After a cold front on Tuesday, Wednesday will be cooler with the possibility of some leftover moisture falling in the early morning. The latter part of the week is expected to be dry and warm, with high temperatures in the 40s at the bases and low 30s on the summits.
Looking ahead, a low-pressure system moving across southern Arizona is expected to bring more snow to Colorado from Sunday night through Tuesday night. Preliminary accumulation totals look to be between 6-10 inches in the northern mountains, 4-8 inches in the central mountains, and 3-5 inches in the southern mountains.
Overall, March is forecasted to be a snowy month with multiple snow events expected in Colorado’s mountains.
