This Valentine’s Day in Colorado, National Donor Day highlights the significance of organ donation

This Valentine’s Day, National Donor Day is emphasizing the importance of organ donation in Colorado. With over 1,300 people in the state waiting for organ transplants, Donor Alliance is urging people to sign up to become organ donors at DonorAlliance.org. One person has the potential to save up to eight lives through organ donation and help up to 75 others through tissue donation. Anyone 18 and older can sign up, regardless of age or medical history. Experts stress the importance of having difficult conversations with family members about the significance of using one’s life to save others. Starting in Spring 2025, individuals will be able to use MyChart to register as an organ donor, reaching an additional 180 million people. CBS News Colorado’s multimedia journalist Brian Sherrod encourages individuals to consider becoming organ donors to help reduce the number of people waiting for life-saving transplants in the state. Those who sign up will have a small heart added to their driver’s license as a symbol of their commitment to potentially saving lives through organ donation.
