UFCW Local 7: King Soopers workers in Colorado vote to go on strike

King Soopers employees in Colorado have authorized a strike after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with UFCW Local 7, which represents over 10,000 workers. The original contract expired on Jan. 16, and workers in various units voted to authorize an unfair labor practice strike. The union cited multiple unfair labor practice charges against King Soopers, including intimidation of workers and failure to provide necessary information on staffing. President of UFCW Local 7, Kim Cordova, accused Kroger negotiators of targeting retirees to fund wage increases for current workers. Prior to the contract expiration, King Soopers president Joe Kelley stated that the company had offered a comprehensive proposal to the union, including wage increases and pension enhancements, but was met with stall tactics. The timing of the strike and impacted locations will be announced later. Until then, the union advised members to continue reporting to work. This development highlights the ongoing tension between King Soopers and its employees over contract negotiations, setting the stage for a potential strike that could disrupt operations in various locations across the state.
