The University of Colorado has renamed its diversity, equity and inclusion office to the “Office of Collaboration” in response to President Donald Trump’s executive orders aimed at dismantling DEI initiatives. The move comes as part of a broader effort to restore “merit-based opportunity” in the country, as stated in the orders. The University of Colorado did not provide direct responses to questions but referred to a webpage online for comments. The University’s legal team and Office of Federal Government Relations are working to analyze the potential impact on all four campuses. The former DEI webpage was displaying a “page not found” message on Friday.
President Trump’s executive orders have led some companies to shut down DEI offices, while others, like wholesale giant Costco, have not. Employees at the federal level have been instructed to report any efforts to “disguise” DEI offices through name changes or other means. Colorado State University still had its DEI page on its website as of Friday afternoon. The University of Colorado remains committed to serving all of Colorado’s communities with their various differences and perspectives. The name change to the “Office of Collaboration” reflects this commitment to collaboration and inclusivity.
