Press Release: Buckley Space Force Base Contributes $2.6 Billion to Aurora Economy
AURORA, Colo. — Buckley Space Force Base generated a remarkable $2.6 billion economic impact on the local community in 2024, as announced during a recent State of the Base address by Colonel Heidi Dexter, the Base Commander of Space Base Delta 2. This figure marks an increase of $50 million from the previous year.
Highlighting the importance of space capabilities, Colonel Dexter cited the Global Positioning System as an example of how military advancements translate into everyday life, from navigating to ordering food. She emphasized the base’s role in driving local economic growth, stating that recent construction projects alone created approximately 20,000 jobs in Aurora.
The economic report detailed spending of $32.7 million on construction and an additional $17.7 million on local materials and services, contributing significantly to the local workforce. The total value of jobs created amounted to $707 million, underscoring Buckley’s vital relationship with the community.
Robert Devall, director of military affairs at the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the symbiotic relationship between the base and the city, describing how both entities support each other. He noted that while Aurora identifies strongly as a military community, the broader Denver metro area could enhance its recognition and support for military families and personnel.
The strong economic footprint of Buckley Space Force Base not only underscores its military significance but also showcases its pivotal role as an economic engine for the surrounding community, illustrating how defense and local growth can go hand in hand.
