Mikaela Shiffrin Set to Return to World Cup Action in Courchevel

Ski racing enthusiasts can mark their calendars for January 30, 2025, as Vail’s own Mikaela Shiffrin has officially announced her comeback. During an interview on the TODAY show, Shiffrin revealed that she will be returning to World Cup ski racing at Courchevel, France, following her harrowing crash during a Giant slalom race at Killington, Vermont, on November 30.

With an impressive seven victories on the Courchevel course, Shiffrin expressed her excitement as she prepares to tackle the slopes once again. "I’m actually going to be heading over to Europe in the next couple of days to race my first World Cup in Courchevel," she told co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin. Shiffrin shared a teaser on social media, hinting at her return with the message, "Courchevel 1/30…See you soon."

While Shiffrin acknowledged that she will be dealing with her injury throughout the season, she has been diligently working on building her strength and physical conditioning. She has already returned to practice, navigating Giant slalom gates at Beaver Creek. Despite her limited skiing over the past seven weeks, she feels her mental preparedness is improving as she gears up for competition.

Currently, Shiffrin ranks 16th in the overall World Cup standings with 245 FIS points, and she faces a tough road ahead to stay competitive for potential World Cup globes and her illustrious goal of achieving victory No. 100. As she noted during her interview, Shiffrin is entering the fray against the world’s best athletes, all while recovering from an oblique injury. The ski racing community eagerly anticipates her long-awaited return on January 30.
