The 2025 Oscar nominations were announced, with big names like Denzel Washington, Nicole Kidman, and Amy Adams being shut out. History was made with Karla Sofía Gascón becoming the first openly transgender actress nominated for an Oscar for her role in “Emilia Pérez.” While Kidman did not make the cut, Gascón was joined by Cynthia Erivo, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, and Fernanda Torres in the best actress category.
In the best supporting actress category, Zoe Saldaña was nominated, but Selena Gomez missed out. The best actor category saw Daniel Craig and Hugh Grant excluded, with Sebastian Stan and Adrien Brody among the nominees. Denzel Washington was left out of the best supporting actor category, with Clarence Maclin also not making the cut. Notable omissions in the best director category included Jon M. Chu and Denis Villeneuve.
Other notable nominees included Elton John for best song, the film “Nosferatu,” and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for their score. “Emilia Pérez” leads the Oscar race with 13 nominations, followed by “The Brutalist” and “Wicked” with 10 each. The 97th Academy Awards will be presented on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
