Arctic Air Blast Brings Record-Low Temperatures to Colorado

As an Arctic blast moves out of Colorado, it has left behind a record of frigid temperatures across the region. Over the night on Monday, temperatures plummeted dramatically as skies cleared over the central Rockies, with Denver experiencing a chilling -14 degrees before midnight.

However, the most severe cold was recorded in the Fraser Valley of Grand County, where Fraser Flats registered an astounding -44 degrees, and nearby Grand Lake fell to -40 degrees. These temperatures are among the lowest reported in the nation for the day.

The cold snap affected various locations across Colorado’s Front Range. While not breaking records, many areas experienced significant drops below zero. Notable temperatures include Alamosa at -14, Aspen at -17, and Colorado Springs also hitting -14 degrees. Further reports indicated that Gunnison faced a bitter -31 degrees, while leads in colder temperatures showed Limon and Leadville each at -19 degrees.

In total, the Arctic air surge has left much of Colorado in a deep freeze, with areas like Akron seeing -9, Durango at -9, and both Pueblo and Lamar bottoming out at -19 degrees. This latest weather pattern serves as a reminder of the harsh winter conditions that can envelop the state.

As the cold fronts continue to sweep through, residents are advised to take precautions against the bitter temperatures. Chief Meteorologist Dave Aguilera encourages locals to stay updated with the latest forecasts and safety tips as Colorado endures these frigid conditions.
