Police Shoot and Injure Suspect in Lakewood Incident
Lakewood, CO – A wanted man sustained injuries after being shot by police on Tuesday afternoon following a dramatic attempted arrest linked to multiple felony warrants. The incident began around noon when officers from the Lakewood Police Department tried to pull over the suspect, who had previously evaded law enforcement multiple times.
According to police reports, when officers attempted the traffic stop, the suspect fled in his vehicle, almost colliding with them. Notably, he had a firearm displayed on his lap, as observed by department spokesperson John Romero.
By 4 p.m., the Colorado Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force located the suspect outside his vehicle at an apartment complex near West Colfax Avenue and Pierce Street, across from the well-known Casa Bonita restaurant. Upon police arrival, the suspect allegedly fled with a gun in hand. "It’s unknown exactly what happened between that time, but the suspect was fired at," Romero stated in a press conference.
Officers from the Denver and Golden police departments responded, engaging the suspect and firing shots that ultimately led to his injury. He was apprehended and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where his condition is now stable, though specifics regarding his injuries have not been disclosed. Remarkably, no officers were harmed in the incident.
This shooting marks the second police-related shooting in the area within a month; the earlier incident involved a fatal shooting of 26-year-old Nairelis “Junior” Castel on January 12. Two suspects have since been arrested in connection with that case.
Law enforcement continues to investigate Tuesday’s shooting as part of their ongoing efforts to address crime and maintain community safety.
