Lakewood, CO – In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, law enforcement officers in Lakewood shot and injured a male suspect, who is believed to have been armed and fleeing from police. The suspect is currently receiving treatment for what are reported as non-life threatening injuries.
According to John Romero of the Lakewood Police Department, the suspect was wanted on multiple warrants, including felony eluding. Officers initially attempted to arrest him Tuesday morning but he managed to evade capture. Later in the day, police spotted the suspect in a vehicle, during which he drove off, almost colliding with officers.
Hours later, officers tracked the suspect to an apartment complex located near Pierce Street and Colfax Avenue—close to the popular Casa Bonita restaurant. When confronted by police in the late afternoon, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee while wielding a gun. In response to his refusal to comply with police orders, officers from the Golden and Denver police departments discharged their weapons.
Multiple agencies are currently investigating the incident, and a firearm linked to the suspect was recovered at the scene. Thankfully, no officers sustained injuries during the altercation.
