Black & Read Expands Amid Vinyl Resurgence in Arvada

ARVADA, Colo. — Black & Read, a beloved independent music, book, and game store, is set to expand after 34 years in business, capitalizing on the renewed interest in vinyl records. "We found the perfect spot, so we’re really excited about it," stated Michael Baca, the store’s music manager, who has dedicated 24 years to Black & Read. The expansion aims to create a more spacious environment for customers, with potential plans for a stage to host live music events.

Baca, who first visited the store as a teenager, has witnessed the shift in music consumption over the decades. He believes nostalgia plays a significant role in vinyl’s comeback. “Many parents and relatives passed down their records, bringing back interest in physical media," he shared, emphasizing the emotional connection to collecting physical items.

Shane Endsley, a senior lecturer at Metropolitan State University of Denver and performer, echoes this sentiment. He views vinyl as a tangible souvenir from concerts, praising its vibrant artwork and superior sound quality compared to digital streaming. “It has a real warmth that people are gravitating towards,” he noted.

Ethan Nguyen, a newer customer who joined the Black & Read community in 2021, values the ownership of physical media amidst the risks of streaming services. “It’s important to own physical media,” he remarked, highlighting the joy of having something tangible to appreciate while enjoying music.

As the store prepares for its move to a larger location at 6655 Wadsworth Boulevard, Black & Read is offering a 20% discount on all items through January 26, making it an exciting time for both old and new customers.
