The U.S. military will soon deploy around 1,500 active duty troops to the country’s southern border, according to a defense official. This move comes in response to President Donald Trump’s recent executive actions on border security. Approximately 2,500 members of the National Guard and Army Reserve are already at the border supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Active duty troops were last sent to the border during former President Joe Biden’s administration. Unless the Insurrection Act is invoked, active duty troops will be limited to support roles and will not participate in apprehensions. This deployment is part of ongoing efforts to enhance border security and combat illegal immigration.
