Cold Weather Forces School and Business Closures Across Colorado

DENVER — A severe arctic cold front has led to the closure and delayed openings of several schools and businesses in Colorado on Tuesday, as dangerously low temperatures and snowfall grip the region. Major school districts, including Denver Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools, and Cherry Creek School District, have announced plans to open late, with many implementing delays ranging from one to two hours.

Colorado State University will also open late, with classes beginning at 10 a.m. The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has designated Tuesday as a “Weather Impact Day,” with temperatures expected to plunge into negative figures early in the morning. However, a slight reprieve is anticipated by Tuesday afternoon, as Denver’s temperature may finally rise above freezing for the first time since Friday.

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) warns that the harsh weather conditions could disrupt bus and rail services in the Denver area. Commuters are advised to use the service alerts and dress warmly, as rail services may experience delays due to required slower speeds at train stations and crossings. Access-a-Ride and FlexRide customers should expect additional delays and reconsider non-essential travel plans.

A comprehensive list of school closures and delays was provided by Denver Gazette’s media partner, 9News. This includes impacted schools such as 27J Schools and Adams 12 Five Star Schools, among many others.

With the inclement weather expected to persist through Wednesday, local authorities urge residents to stay informed and exercise caution during this period of extreme cold and snowfall.
