A British teenager named Axel Rudakubana has pleaded guilty to the murder of three young girls in a shocking knife attack that occurred in the northern UK in July. The victims, aged 6, 7, and 9, were attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance event in Southport town when the attack took place. Rudakubana also admitted to 10 charges of attempted murder, as well as producing ricin and possessing an al-Qaeda training manual.
The teenager, born in Wales to Rwandan parents, will be sentenced on Thursday and is likely facing a life jail term. The crime sparked nationwide rioting against migrants in August, with false reports on social media fueling unrest in Southport and beyond. Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the riots as far-right thuggery, with over 1,500 people arrested in connection with the violent outbreaks.
Following Rudakubana’s guilty pleas, Interior Minister Yvette Cooper emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to provide justice for the victims’ families. The case had been set for a trial before Rudakubana changed his plea, signaling a quicker resolution to the horrific crime that shocked the nation.
