TikTok Assures U.S. Employees of Job Security Despite Potential Ban of the App

TikTok has reassured its U.S. employees that their jobs are secure even if the Supreme Court upholds a law that would ban the video app in the United States on Sunday. The company, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, is fighting a law that requires its U.S. operations to be sold to a non-Chinese owner to avoid being banned.

In a message to its staff, TikTok’s global head of human resources, Nicky Raghavan, acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming decision and assured employees that their employment, pay, and benefits will continue. The Supreme Court is expected to make a decision before the law takes effect on Sunday, which would penalize app stores and internet hosting services for distributing or updating the TikTok app.

Despite the existential threat facing TikTok, the company’s leadership team is focused on planning for various scenarios and moving forward. The message, sent to over 13,000 employees, expressed gratitude for their resilience and dedication amid the legal battle. Former employees also mentioned that there has been little internal acknowledgment of the possibility of a ban.

TikTok previously stated that it had more than 7,000 U.S. employees, but the current count is unclear. As the company awaits the Supreme Court’s decision, employees are uncertain about what happens next. The message sought to provide reassurance and stability during this uncertain time for TikTok and its employees.
