Iranian President refutes claims of plotting to assassinate Trump, urges him to seek peace – Latest Donald Trump Updates

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian denied allegations of Iran plotting to kill United States President-elect Donald Trump in an interview with US media outlet NBC News. Pezeshkian also emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and warned Trump against risking war as he returns to power. The interview comes less than a week before Trump’s inauguration, with the president-elect having implemented tough policies against Iran during his first term.

Pezeshkian stated that Iran has never attempted to assassinate Trump and will not do so in the future. The US Department of Justice charged an Iranian man in connection with an alleged plot by Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to assassinate Trump, but the plan was thwarted before any attack took place. Trump had previously suggested that Iran may have been behind attempts on his life but investigators found no evidence of Iranian involvement.

Furthermore, Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and that Tehran is not seeking nuclear weaponry. He expressed hope that Trump would contribute to peace in the region and the world, rather than escalating conflicts. Iran remains open to dialogue but emphasized that any commitments arising from talks must be upheld by all parties involved.

Talks with European powers indicate a seriousness about resuming negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. Pezeshkian’s interview comes as tensions between Iran and the US remain high, with concerns about the potential for conflict under the incoming Trump administration.
