Arrest Made in Steamboat Ski Resort Assault Case
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — The Steamboat Springs Police Department announced the arrest of 21-year-old Kaiden Bogda in connection with an assault on a ski coach at Steamboat Ski Resort. The arrest took place on Monday evening at an auto parts store on Central Park Drive, according to a police press release.
Bogda faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, stemming from an incident that occurred on January 4. Police report that during the altercation, Bogda confronted the ski coach about his positioning while coaching a group of young skiers.
After the verbal exchange, Bogda allegedly followed the coach down the slope. Upon catching up, he reportedly grabbed the coach and punched him in the head several times. The victim managed to take a photo of Bogda during the incident, while a student witnessed and filmed the assault. The coach suffered potential serious injuries as a result of the attack.
Authorities utilized social media and received numerous tips from the community to identify Bogda as the suspect. In addition to assault charges, he is also charged with failure to remain at the scene of a skier vs. skier crash.
The incident has raised concerns about safety on the slopes as the authorities encourage respectful behavior among skiers and snowboarders. As the investigation continues, the community remains vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity on the mountain.
