Press Article: Suspect Arrested in String of Stabbings in Downtown Denver
Denver, CO – Elijah David Caudill, a 24-year-old man with a troubled history of encounters with law enforcement, was arrested in connection with four stabbings that took place over the weekend in downtown Denver. Caudill appeared in court on Monday and is being held without bond, facing charges including first-degree murder and attempted murder.
The violent incidents unfolded on Saturday evening along the bustling 16th Street Mall, where three stabbings happened within an hour. The first occurred at 5:12 PM, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to a male victim. Just five minutes later, a female victim was fatally injured when she was stabbed in the throat. The third stabbing involved a male victim who sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive. A fourth individual was stabbed the following night, later succumbing to injuries.
Police Chief Ron Thomas reported that Caudill was observed running with a butcher knife, shortly after the attacks, indicating he was the primary suspect. Despite a history of arrests—including robbery, menacing, and theft—Thomas stated that Caudill was not known for violent behavior prior to this weekend’s events.
Court records reveal that Caudill has been arrested 15 times since 2018, with charges ranging from criminal mischief to sexual assault. One notable incident in 2021 involved Caudill threatening a property manager with a knife. His latest arrest occurred in August 2023 for criminal mischief.
As the community grapples with these tragic events, Chief Thomas emphasized the need for vigilance and support in addressing public safety. The investigation is ongoing as police seek additional information about Caudill’s actions leading up to the stabbings.
